Fish Identification

Ever finish a dive and ask, “What was that fish?” The Fish Identification Specialty Course turns you from the questioner into the expert! Learn to identify the main fish families and their distinguishing characteristics, and bring a whole new level of enjoyment and insight to your dives.

This Course Is Perfect If You Want To

  • Confidently identify fish you see underwater

  • Understand fish families, species, and their key features

  • Enhance your diving experience with knowledge of marine life

What You’ll Learn

Academic Session

Understanding fish families and species makes it easier to identify what you see on your dives. For example, a butterflyfish in the Caribbean may share a shape with one in Southeast Asia, but colors and markings differ. Recognizing the family allows you to look up the species or ask a local instructor intelligently.
