The Deep Diver Specialty Course is designed to safely introduce certified divers to deeper recreational diving under professional supervision. This program equips you with the knowledge, techniques, and confidence needed to explore depths of up to 40 metres, while understanding the risks and responsibilities that come with deep diving.
With a strong emphasis on safety, planning, and awareness, this course prepares you to enjoy deeper dive sites responsibly and comfortably.
Course Structure
Academic Session
The course begins with an evening classroom session covering essential theory for deep diving, including:
Deep diving objectives and planning
Definition of deep diving and recreational depth limits
Specialized deep diving equipment and techniques
Nitrogen narcosis: causes, symptoms, and management
Decompression sickness and prevention
Flying after diving and altitude considerations (mountain driving)
Review of the Recreational Dive Planner
Open Water Dives (4 Boat Dives)
Dive 1
Perform timed tasks at depth
Compare depth gauge and computer readings
Dive 2
Controlled descent using a visual reference line
Observe pressure effects on objects
Navigate away from and return to the reference line
Dive 3
Observe colour loss at depth
Perform physical tasks
Learn Stage Bottle Rigging (SBR)
Dive 4
Guided deep underwater tour
Apply all learned deep diving skills in real conditions
Course Requirements
Minimum age: 15 years
Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent)
